Some laptop artists get a reputation for being dull live, but that definitely can't be said about mash-up master Girl Talk (aka Greg Gillis). We don't need us to tell you the Pittsburgh, PA-based beat-maker has earned a reputation for energized live shows, inviting fans on stage and pulling off goofy stunts like rigging toilet paper rolls onto leaf blowers. Now, Girl Talk is planning to take his sweat-dripping live show on a lengthy North American tour.
Following a few one-off shows in December, Gillis will be on the road from early January to late March. It's a hectic schedule; other than a brief break in mid-February, he's got a show every night or two for three months. There's only one Canadian date currently booked: Montreal on March 1.
Girl Talk has a new LP on the way and although no release date has been confirmed, hopefully it will be out in time for this run of shows. As for what the album will sound like, Gillis recently told Pitchfork: "I wanted to put in more little breather-room elements. It's definitely in the same ballpark as Feed the Animals, but the production's more complex and there's more of a variety in the source material."
