Germaphobes

'Magic Eye' (EP stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Nov 26, 2015

Toronto-based duo Germaphobes are ready to unleash a new EP called Magic Eye tomorrow (November 27), but Exclaim! is giving you a chance to hear the whole thing a bit early.

The band consists of longtime pals Neil Rankin and Paul Erlichman, who formed the band based on a mutual appreciation for the "outre fringes of pop music." Crafting quirky, catchy music that "would have fit neatly into the Lower East Side scene of the late '70s," the band open their latest offering with the infectious, otherworldly title track.

"Michael Ondaatje's World" then casts a psychedelic spell over listeners, while "Larger Diamonds" shows off the band's art-punk chops before getting a bit brighter and more upbeat on "Husk of a Man." The set of songs wraps up with the charmingly odd "Oil in a Jar," delivering one final burst of eccentric energy.

Magic Eye is out on November 27 through Pleasence Records, and you can see the duo's upcoming live dates listed below. Scroll past the shows to give the EP an early listen.
