Judging by the upcoming reissue of Flake Music's When You Land Here, It's Time to Return, the band's James Mercer may have been pre-destined to lead 2000s indie pop favourites the Shins. For proof, check out a stream of the older project's "The Shins."
Remixed and remastered for the new pressing being delivered November 24 through Sub Pop/Aural Apothecary, the track brings out Mercer's familiar cracked vocal tone, '90s alt-rock spangle and a start-stop drum pattern. It gets a little crunchy in the chorus, but still plays out plenty poppy.
