Christian Fennesz has unveiled the first sneak preview from his upcoming Bécs LP, the opulent and ambient guitar-and-electronics blend "Static Kings."
The track starts up with a series of springy explosions, but soon enough the energetic wash of noise is overcome by a series of softly strummed guitar melodies. The track adds, fittingly enough, more elaborate electronic ripples of static and assorted speaker-panning sonic textures to mingle with the easy-listening six-strings before coming to a gentle close.
As previously reported, Bécs is "the conceptual follow-up" to 2001's Endless Summer, and the newly revealed soundscape certainly fits the bill. The album marks Fennesz's return to Editions Mego, who put the set in stores April 29.
