We're just a week away from Merge Records' re-releasing the first two Crooked Fingers albums, but there's apparently more Eric Bachmann music on the way this year. The Archers of Loaf frontman is due to release a solo album in March, also through Merge.
The self-titled set lands March 25, with a press release explaining that Bachmann's next full-length set under his own name signals the end of his long-running Crooked Fingers project. Prior to this, he'd also issued 2002's Short Careers and 2006's To the Races as Eric Bachmann.
The upcoming nine-song release is being described as featuring some of the "rawest, most honest work" of Bachmann's career, with the record reportedly including a series of "direct challenges" to "social injustice... precarious love, and frequently to Southern hypocrisy."
Eric Bachmann was recorded in Asheville, NC, with the sessions finding the singer-songwriter surrounded by musicians including Jeremy Wheatley, Matthew Nelson, Jon Rauhouse, Tracey Wolf, Samara Waller, Wade Rittenberry, and Liz Durrett.
Down below, you'll find a stream of doo-wop-dappled first single "Mercy," as well as Eric Bachmann's tracklisting and info on a handful of upcoming solo shows.
As previously reported, Merge is giving Crooked Fingers' self-titled set from 2000 and 2001's Bring on the Snakes their first-ever vinyl pressings. The records are set to arrive on January 29.
