Although it's been well over a year since Elephant Stone gave us The Glass Box, the Montreal indie rockers are back with a self-titled, second full length album. After recently signing with Hidden Pony Records, the album is set to be released February 5, (with a February 12 vinyl release via The Reverberation Appreciation Society,) but you can stream the whole thing right now at Exclaim.ca.
Elephant Stone have been defined as power pop, indie-rock, and psych-pop, but their upcoming album builds on their previous work to create a sound all their own. The album delivers ten tracks that, according to the band's release, cannot fit into one category, as the songs range "from BJM-style rollers, to Caribou dance floor rumblers, to REM-style janglers, to Hindustani raga spiritualizers and back again."
Late last year, we got a taste of the new album with the release of single "Heavy Moon." It features backward sitar tracks and droning organs creating a more ominous tone which is a stark contrast to tracks like "Love the Sinner, Hate the Sin," which delivers head bopping, poppy notes.
Following the album's release, the band is set to go on tour with sitarist/bassist Rishi Dhir's former collaborators, and fellow psych-rockers, the Black Angels.
