Late last year, we learned that Eight and a Half, the electro-tinged project featuring members of Broken Social Scene and the Stills, would deliver their self-titled debut this February, but plans have since changed. The record is still set for a 2012 release, but the group have now pushed the street date to April 10. Eight and a Half are making up for the delay, however, with news of a ten-inch teaser single and a couple of upcoming shows.
The Toronto-based trio unveiled a video for "Scissors" back in December, but the outfit have now unleashed the single's other original, "Go Ego." The synth-driven number, which you can stream below, comes off playful and poppy, but multi-instrumentalist Dave Hamelin explains that the song sports a serious believe-in-yourself message.
"I often feel like being Buddhist would be the best thing I could do for myself," Hamelin told MTV Hive about the song's origins. "It can be difficult to deal with the past sometimes and I've been attempting to deal with certain latent memories for a long time now. This song is about trying to stop castigating oneself as opposed to castigating oneself."
Also included on the EP, which Arts & Crafts will deliver on March 10, are remixes by Tokimonsta and Memory Tapes.
With the full-length album still a few months off, Eight and a Half will keep themselves occupied with a few concert performances, including a hometown gig at Toronto's Drake Hotel on February 15. You can check out the rest of the band's schedule below.
