Despite cancelling some shows last month due to a family tragedy, Dum Dum Girls have been on the road non-stop this year to promote their first full-length, I Will Be. In fact, last week we reported that the California crew would be hitting the club circuit again come February. As great as their debut garage-pop record is, though, hitting up the same cities with the same set list can get a little stale. Hoping to juice things up, then, the troupe have announced a new EP.
Titled He Gets Me High, the new four-song set includes three new tunes penned by lead Dum Dum Dee Dee Gartrell, who produced the disc along with legendary songwriter Richard Gottehrer ("My Boyfriend's Back," "I Want Candy") and fellow '60s pop rock enthusiast Sune Rose Wagner of the Raveonettes.
The collection is rounded out by a cover of the Smiths' classic "There Is a Light That Never Goes Out," which will likely get the lo-fi wall-of-sound treatment that Dum Dum Girls are known for.
He Gets Me High is set to be released March 1 on Sub Pop, just in time for their upcoming tour. Check out the tracklisting and those tour dates below.
Thanks to Pitchfork for the tip.
