Dry Cleaning have shared "Anna Calls from the Arctic," the "observational and sensual" new single from their forthcoming sophomore full-length Stumpwork.
Driven by clattering percussion and blooms of clarinet and keys, the song is a languid and dreamy thing. It's unsurprisingly rad, and paired with lead single "Don't Press Me," it seems like Stumpwork is gonna reveal some new facets of Dry Cleaning's already-individual sound.
"The lyrics were partly inspired by phone calls with a friend who was living and working in the Arctic," the band wrote in a statement. "The song developed from a keyboard, bass and clarinet jam. This then took shape during our pre-recording sessions with John Parish and Joe Jones in Bristol and finalized at Rockfield studios a month later, with some musical inspiration coming from the dramatic scores of John Barry."
Stumpwork is the follow-up to Dry Cleaning's 2021 debut New Long Leg. It arrives October 21 on 4AD.
