The last time we heard from the Doors, the surviving members of the California classic rockers decided to open themselves up to a new generation via a dubious dubstep collab with Skrillex, but the band will get back to basics next year (i.e., the Jim Morrison-sung stuff) when they issue a 40th anniversary edition of their beloved L.A. Woman.
A two-disc deluxe reissue comes out January 24. Disc one features the original ten-song album, but its companion platter features a number of extra goodies, from alternate studio takes of "Riders on the Storm" and "Love Her Madly" to the unveiling of previously unreleased number "She Smells So Nice." You can catch a brief snippet of the bluesy "She Smells So Nice," as well as a full tracklisting, down below.
All of the unreleased material will also be collected on a double LP called L.A. Woman: The Workshop Sessions, referring to the fact that they were captured in the band's L.A. practice space, aka the Doors Workshop. The music will be pressed on three sides of vinyl, while a laser etching of the "Electric Woman" art included in original pressings of the album is featured on side four.
The Doors will also deliver a behind-the-scenes documentary called Mr. Mojo Risin': The Story of L.A. Woman, which includes interviews with surviving members Ray Manzarek, John Densmore and Robby Krieger, as well as footage captured during studio sessions and in concert. It too comes out January 24.
