Well, we must admit that we didn't see this one coming. The current incarnation of the Doors have announced their new lead singer. And the man selected to replace the legendary Jim Morrison is none other than... Miljenko Matijevic?
Who? Well, remember Steelheart? No, not Streetheart - Steelheart. The hair metal band based in Norwalk, CT who have their own brew of coffee and whose lead singer, Matijevic, apparently caught the eye of the Doors dudes when they were scouting out talent to fill Morrison's shoes (and the shoes of the Cult's Ian Astbury and Fuel's Brett Scallion, who also have sung with the Doors).
Wait, the Doors are still a band? Well, kind of. Legal issues prevent them from calling themselves the Doors (ex-drummer John Densmore put the poo-poo on that one), so guitarist Robby Krieger and keyboardist Ray Manzarek and some other dudes tour around under different names: the Doors of the 21st Century, D21C, and Riders on the Storm, for example. So, for their latest effort, the band has recruited Matijevic for lead vocal duties.
Head here for an out-of-date Riders on the Storm MySpace page. Hmm, low public profile, poor attempts at dealing with modern promotion techniques, credibility blows due to name and member changes... anyone else getting shades of Thin Lizzy right about now?
Thanks to Music Radar for the heads-up.
