Disappears Return with 'Era'

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jun 28, 2013

When Chicago's Disappears announced their spring EP Kone, they also promised an LP called Era would arrive later in the year. True to their word, the Krautrock-lovin' combo will let loose their fourth LP in as many years August 27 via Kranky.

A press release notes that the seven-song set was written at the tail end of 2012 and recorded this past January at Chicago's Electrical Audio facility with John Congleton. The album is the first full-length with drummer Noah Leger, who had replaced former skinsman and Sonic Youth member Steve Shelley. Leger had also appeared on Kone.

Era is described as "insular and dark," and is said to further the band's explorations in "dub, minimalism and repetition." You can check out the haunting, cyclical first single "Power" in the player down below.

As previously reported, Disappears hit the road with San Francisco's Weekend in the fall and are set to hit Toronto and Montreal during the trek. You can see the show details beneath Era's tracklisting.
