What is Contemporary Color? Put simply, it's a new event that David Byrne is putting on in Brooklyn and Toronto that combines live music with colour guards. But if that's not enough in the way of an explanation, you might want to check out his new trailer video, "What Is Contemporary Color?"

In the clip, we see the colour guard dance troupes practicing in a gym, and the whole thing involves lots of spinning around with flags and imitation rifles. There are some interview clips with the dancers, and Talking Heads man Byrne is on hand to discuss the origins of the project. In the end, we see what it looks like when colour guard routines are set to St. Vincent's music.

Watch it below.

The Toronto Contemporary Color shows will take place at the Air Canada Centre on June 22 and 23 as part of Luminato. The Brooklyn shows will then be at the Barclays Center on June 27 and 28 in association with BAM. The musicians who will be performing live include St. Vincent, Devonté Hynes (Blood Orange), tUnE-yArDs, Ad-Rock and Money Mark of Beastie Boys, How to Dress Well, Kelis, Nelly Furtado and more. Of course, Byrne himself will perform.
