Dave Monks has dropped a road trip-inspired lyric video for "Girl of Mine," the latest visual release off his sophomore solo album I've Always Wanted to Be Me, which arrived in October via his own Ghost Pepper Records

The Danny Corey-filmed video features stunning desert scenery — from cacti atond majestic rock formations — which populate the shots. Scenes shift between day and night as sunset splendour unfolds, bringing a sense of deep ease. The gentle track's visual accompaniment is complementary, as it carries the catharsis of the open road.

Monks' recent record centres on his shifting identity as he finds solace amongst the chaos. "If you're like me, then you're never quite the same person from one day to the next," he shared in a press release. "Your personality is more of an ever-changing kaleidoscope of 'yous' than something set in stone."

He elaborated on how unity emerged amongst the tracks of the album: "I've embraced that for myself with this album of unlikely outliers, who are stylistically all over the map, but find a weird cohesion in their differentness. There's so much exciting new territory in it and releasing it feels like turning a new page."

Alongside the video, Monks has also lined up some solo shows for early 2022. Following his recent 10th anniversary celebration of Tokyo Police Club's Champ across North America, Monks will perform a pair of Ontario shows in support of I've Always Wanted to Be Me next February. Check out his new video and upcoming tour dates below.
