Originally from Montreal and currently based in Toronto, Danielle Duval has a knack for writing melodious and rocking pop songs. Her debut album Of the Valley arrived independently in the fall of 2011, and on May 29 it was reissued on EMI. In this clip for Exclaim! TV she plays "Day Becomes Night" from that record.
Duval is a natural front-woman, and her band serves her well. As the song phases in with the help of the keyboards, the drums bounce along affably with a minimal setup of just a snare and floor tom. Soon the bass locks in and the guitar begins to pepper the track with complementary licks. Meanwhile, Duval's singing voice is sweet and quirky, but also packs a punch, and her style is effortlessly cool.
As a part of North by Northeast, on Friday (June 15), Danielle Duval will be performing at the Rivoli.
