Chris Cornell Delves into the Past with Live 'Songbook' Album

BY Alex HudsonPublished Sep 29, 2011

Despite having recently reunited with grunge legends Soundgarden, Chris Cornell has spent much of 2011 in acoustic troubadour form. He previously embarked upon a solo "Songbook" tour and released the mellow single "The Keeper." Now, he's turned his stripped-down tour into a live album called Songbook, due out November 21 via Universal.

Like the tour, the album includes acoustic versions of past favourites, plus the odd cover. This means Soundgarden classics ("Black Hole Sun, "Fell on Black Days"), as well as some Audioslave cuts ("Like a Stone," "I am the Highway") and solo material (including the recent "The Keeper"). There is also "Thank You" by Led Zeppelin and "Imagine" by John Lennon.

We'll have to see whether anything comes of Cornell's plan to record more material with Soundgarden, because, really, nothing makes a musician seem over the hill than an acoustic album called Songbook.

Check out the tracklist below and see his upcoming tour dates at his official website (there are currently none booked in Canada).
