Brooklyn Doran

"I Found a Home" (video)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jan 5, 2018

Brooklyn Doran delivered her debut album These Paper Wings back in 2016, but she's kicking off 2018 with a brand new video for one of the cuts on that LP.

"I Found a Home" has been given the visual treatment, courtesy of Toronto-based filmmaker and photographer Cassandra Rudolph. The clip captures a trio of forlorn-looking women isolated in an empty-feeling house, though they eventually find comfort in each other's company.

As Doran explains, it was a deliberate decision to portray a group of women living together rather than a hetero-normative romantic couple.

"I wrote this song for a couple I met, who have been married for over 40 years, and I wanted the video to reflect how lost I felt while trying to write it," Doran tells Exclaim! "How people come and go from your life and how the idea of love felt very semi-permanent for me at the time."

She adds, "Today, I am surrounded by wonderful people that I love, an amazing partner and a beautiful family. For me the idea of finding home is with the people you love — be it a romantic partner, or a family of friends."
