In addition to his musical work in Rheostatics and Bidiniband, Dave Bidini has made a name for himself as a Canadian journalist. Up next, the media personality will attempt a new feat in 2017 by becoming a print publisher.

As the Canadian Press reports, Bidini is launching the West End Phoenix, a new monthly community newspaper set to service Toronto's West End. The paper will be be delivered directly to people's homes.

The non-profit, ad-free paper will be supported by subscriptions, which will cost $56.50 per year.

"I believe that our diverse and wild neighbourhood has the appetite for long-form writing, rich photography and beautiful newsprint, and for the Pet of the Month and some fine comics at the back of the paper, too," Bidini said in a statement. "We hope the West End Phoenix will become a living document of a time and place, and the voices of that place."

The board and advisory council for the paper includes Margaret Atwood and Jennifer Baichwal. The paper will also include contributions from Kalpna Patel, Michael Healey, Eman Bare, Jeff Lemire, Odario Williams, Barbara Davidson and Claudia Day.

The West End Phoenix plans to publish its first issue in October.
