Belly Reveal Plans for Their First Album in More Than 20 Years

It will mark the reunited Tanya Donelly-led act's first record since 1995's 'King'

Following a reunion tour last year, alt-rock vets Belly have announced plans for their first new album in more than 20 years.

The last album fans got from the classic Tanya Donelly-led 4AD act was 1995's King, but Belly have now stated that's all about to change. Via a newly launched PledgeMusic campaign, the band have revealed that we can expect a new Belly full-length in 2018.

So far, the third album from the group has yet to secure a title or release date, but the band have recorded most of the "basic" tracks for the new record at Stable Sound Studio in Rhode Island with Paul Q. Kolderie.

Via their PledgeMusic page, the band explain, "Needless to say, making a record today is very different from the last time Belly recorded together. And so are the mechanisms of sharing music with our friends and the rest of the world."

As we await further details about the new album, you can contribute to the campaign over here. A portion of all profits will go towards hurricane relief in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Down below, you can read Belly's entire message about the new "NameTBD" album.

In late 2015, twenty years after last playing together, we decided it was 'now or never' and announced Belly would reunite for a limited tour in 2016. Falling right back into a laughter-fueled groove as we began rehearsing for the tour, we thought, why not make it interesting and try writing a couple of new tunes together? Those of you who saw one (or several) of the reunion-tour shows last year heard two new songs live…. and you were part of some truly amazing evenings that wildly exceeded our expectations. Along with great joy, ridiculous grins, and a few (happy) tears, there was just an incredible energy and excitement in every place, every night we played. A kind of energy and excitement that really had nowhere to go but into making more music together.

And so that's what we've been doing. Since last year's shows, another nine new songs have sprung forth. "NameTBD" will be Belly's third record, scheduled for release on release date TBD. We've recorded most of the 'basic' tracks at Stable Sound Studio in Rhode Island with our old friend Paul Q. Kolderie at the board, and now we're in the process of recording guitars, vocals and various other overdubs. Needless to say, making a record today is very different from the last time Belly recorded together. And so are the mechanisms of sharing music with our friends and the rest of the world.

We're so very excited about this record, and we're pleased to partner with Pledge Music as one of the ways to share it and let you all be apart of it. You can advance-order NameTBD on vinyl, CD, or as a digital download, as well as find a variety of "bundles" and exclusive limited-edition goodies. All advance orders through Pledge give you member-only access to updates, peeks into the studio, and a soon to be released digital download of our cover of "Hush-a-Bye Mountain," which we recorded just for fun while in the studio.

We hope you'll come along with us as we work on finishing up NameTBD, and we really look forward to sharing these new songs (and plenty of the old ones, too!) with you live in 2018!
