Dan Bejar, best know as Destroyer, or as a member of super-group the New Pornographers and Swan Lake, has added Hello, Blue Roses to his active band roster. Arranging songs written by his wife, visual artist and singer Sydney Vermont, Bejar plays a supportive role in the duos debut album.
The Portrait Is Finished And I Have Failed To Capture Your Beauty was written and recorded during a vacation from the toils of regular living for the newly weds, who found inspiration reading, philosophising about life and travelling from Malaga, Spain, where the albums 14 songs were demoed, to JC/DC studios in Vancouver, BC, where recording was completed. Citing Kate Bush-style 80s AOR, Glasgow jangle funk revolutionaries Orange Juice and 70s femme folk as musical touchstones seems on the mark, judging by early cuts Shadows Falls and "Hello Blue Roses.
