Bad Vibrations Line Up Full-Length Debut, Canadian Tour Dates

BY Alison LangPublished Oct 13, 2011

This fall, Halifax doom punkers Bad Vibrations are releasing their first full-length LP Black Train on October 14. KC Spidle (Dog Day, Husband and Knife) Evan Cardwell (Secret Colours) and Meg Yoshida wrote and recorded the album this past summer and are putting out the record on their own label, Brotherhood Records (formerly Brotherhood Cassettes).

The band are well-equipped to produce their own output, which over the past two years has included a CD, a split tape with fellow Haligonian grungers Bloodhouse and a seven-inch. Bassist Cardwell is a trained audio engineer and drummer Yoshida, a graphic designer by trade, designs the group's album artwork.

"The DIY thing is pretty much the way we always knew we'd do it," Spidle tells Exclaim! "It keeps us busy, but happy. There's no reason to do otherwise."

Recorded and written largely in the band's basement jam space -- "Our own personal dungeon," Spidle says -- Black Train balances bottom-heavy riffs and relentless rhythms with ethereal choruses and an overall spooky vibe that's reminiscent of fellow East Coasters Elevator.

The album, which is limited to 300 copies on vinyl, cements Bad Vibrations' status as one of Halifax's most consistent purveyors of weird, haunted punk, and it's entirely fitting that they will be hitting the road to share their dark visions just in time for Halloween.
