Back in 2019, there were rumblings from below the pedal boards of the past. Were English shoegaze greats the Catherine Wheel, dormant since the release of 2000's Wishville, potentially plotting a reunion?
Despite the five-piece's David Hawes and Brian Futter's Facebook activity, it didn't seem like anything had fully materialized then — but things can take time to ferment. The band's social media accounts are now decorated with several cryptic messages teasing their return.
Yesterday (March 29), they shared a graphic that reads, "It's time," and includes two 2023 dates: April 18 and May 30. They captioned the post with a number: 8365. Can a Tool fan please translate this?

Even before that, the Catherine Wheel recently updated their logo across their socials — and according to a joke from the band's "social media admin," apparently people immediately jumped to the conclusions they tend to whenever an artist's accounts get an inconspicuous makeover.
The band are also celebrating 30 years of their sophomore LP Chrome this year, and their — bless their hearts — old-school doge meme does seem to indicate that they might be harbouring a secret. Is it just another vinyl reissue, or are they hitting the road again? Or maybe even releasing new music? We'll have to wait and see.
