Alex Lahey is back with new music. The Australian alt-rocker has announced her new album The Answer Is Always Yes is set to be released on May 19 via Liberation.
To drop the album in style, Lahey is embarking on a North American tour which kicks off on the same day. The lone Canadian stop in the 23-show tour will come at Toronto's Velvet Underground (June 4).
Lahey has already released two singles from the 10-song project in November's "Shit Talkin'" and August's "Congratulations" — and she's now followed them up by releasing "Good Time" alongside a music video directed by Jon Danovic.
True to its name, "Good Time" is driven by lighthearted lyrics and a foot-tapping, head-bouncing melody.
"This song was inspired by a night out I had at the pub with my friend soon after Melbourne came out of lengthy lockdowns," said Lahey. "We were watching all these strangers around us have this 'whatever it takes' attitude towards making the most of the night (a.k.a. getting lit). It was a bit of a shock after being cooped up for so long, but also kind of invigorating."
The song fits the theme of The Answer Is Always Yes to a tee, which Lahey said is about being one of those from the outside looking in.
"Living in a world that wasn't made for you makes you pretty strong and adaptive, and you find the fun in it," she remarked. "It also makes you realize how absurd everything is. With this record, I wanted to get weird because the world is weird, and it's even weirder when you realize you don't fit into it all the time."
