The North American continent will be treated to a solar eclipse today (August 21), and though we strongly recommend you don't stare directly at the sun as the event happens, Absolutely Free have released some visuals that you can turn your eyes to instead.
To mark the occasion, the Toronto trio have covered "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore," a song initially credited to Frankie Valli and popularized by the Walker Brothers. Their rendition features ""starry synthesizers, cavernous bass, shimmering highs, and Matt King's atmospheric vocals."
An accompanying video by Petrina Ng can be found below, pairing the track with a darkening sky. The band have also cut the track to a 7-inch picture disc for release through Boiled Records, which can be purchased through Bandcamp here. Proceeds will be donated to non-profit environmental law organization Earthjustice.
Absolutely Free are currently at work on their sophomore LP with with producer Jorge Elbrecht (Ariel Pink, Tamryn, Lansing-Dreiden). Take in their cover of "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore" below.
