Shiv and the Carvers Usher in New Era with Punk Cover of Shania Twain's "That Don't Impress Me Much"

The cover marks former Dilly Dally bassist Annie Jane Marie's first song with the group

Punk rocking Exclaim! Class of 2024 alumni Shiv and the Carvers have paid homage to fellow Ontarian Shania Twain today by putting their own spin on her 1997 girlboss anthem "That Don't Impress Me Much" and, in doing so, introduced the outfit's newest member.

For the first time on a Shiv and the Carvers track, Annie Jane Marie — who migrated to the group following Dilly Dally's split — plucks the bass.

The four-piece bring their unapologetically punk energy to the track, switching out an innocent jab at car lovers with the suggestion that men enjoy intimate relationships with their automobiles (which, according to TLC's My Strange Addiction, is true in some cases). They also supplied their cover with a modern twist by substituting Twain's Brad Pitt reference for a Timothée Chalamet lyric.

Of giving the Twain classic a punk edge, lead singer Shiv Scott told Range Magazine:

"It was super easy to turn into a punk song. The drums are very disco and once we had the big riffs translated over (thanks to Mike [Wiznuk, the band's drummer]), it was already sounding great."

Shiv and the Carvers have also shared an intentionally goofy music video jam-packed with green screen fun to go with the cover. Check it out below.
