Daniel Romano Has Released His 10th Album of 2020

Listen to 'White Flag' as part of Bandcamp Friday

It was only a matter of time before current Exclaim! cover star Daniel Romano made our words obsolete. When we published our cover story on Romano in September, we declared that he had released "nine albums so far this year — and they're all great." Today, he's back with White Flag, his 10th album of 2020.

Though details on the new release are scarce — in typical Romano fashion, he dropped the album on his Bandcamp with little more than a quick announcement on Instagram — it appears that Romano recorded White Flag solo, with breezy, Beatles-esque arrangements. If this is his way of surrendering after a remarkably busy year, it's a great way to go out.

White Flag follows solo albums Visions of the Higher Dream and Dandelion, full-band albums Content to Point the Way and How Ill Thy World Is Ordered, live album "OKAY WOW,"  a Bob Dylan tribute album, Super Pollen with Jade HairpinsSpider Bite with Constantines' Steven Lambke (whose song "Fisherman or Fish" is covered by Romano on White Flag), A Splendour of Heart with Alias Ensemble22-minute song "Forever Love's Fool" with Tool's Danny Carey, and a book of love poems.

When you're done with our cover story, check out Exclaim!'s analysis of the "Five Faces of Daniel Romano." On first listen, White Flag fits squarely in the "Daniel in the Sky with Diamonds" category, with hints of "Rockin' Romano" and "Rhinestone Cowboy."

The album release coincides with Bandcamp Friday, the streaming service's monthly event where it lifts its fees and allow artists to keep 100 percent of the sales for their music.

White Flag is out now via You've Changed, and you can check it out below.
