Warlocks

Heavy Deavy Skull Lover

Featuring a series of epic tracks, the Warlocks’ latest disc weaves together drugged drones and dense textures to create a hypnotic record. While the Velvet Underground have long been a point of comparison for the group, here the band also show some lighter tones. "So Paranoid” and "Dreamless” convey a soporific drift that recalls the gracefulness of Slowdive, while "Death, I Hear You Walking” shifts with distorted patterns that echo Flying Saucer Attack. Heavy Deavy Skull Lover displays a knack for building up feedback until it forms cascades that crash against walls. Other tracks use gentle repetition to create lulling melodies while turning down the volume significantly. The Warlocks’ latest record features the L.A.-based band doing a fine job of mining psychedelic rock terrain to fashion an engaging collection of songs.
