Surf's up, dude! Newfoundland outfit Jonny and the Cowabungas have already self-released their album Walt and Derek's Wild Ride, and with the nine-song collection set to get a summer release through Lawn Chair Records, it can now be heard in full.
Following an opening call-and-response sketch, most of the arrangements are instrumental garage-surf numbers that are filled with twangy, reverb-kissed tones and tremolo bar wobbles. They branch out slightly with the sample filled, buoyant indie rock bounce of "The Toxic Avenger," while closer "Lady Death" abandons the instrumental approach with its shouted punk vocals.
Hear Walt and Derek's Wild Ride below. It's available on tape directly through the band.
