Colin Meloy has always used his position as the Decemberists' frontman to tell dramatic tales through music, but he's putting his storytelling chops back to work on the page for a pair of new books.
Back in 2011, Meloy wrote an adventure novel called Wildwood, which was illustrated by his wife Carson Ellis. Now, the couple have collaborated again to create a picture book titled The Golden Thread. It's a kid-friendly biography of late folk legend Pete Seeger, highlighting both his musical achievements and his role as an outspoken activist. It's expected to arrive in summer 2017 through Balzer + Bray.
Additionally, Meloy and Ellis are working on a currently untitled novel about "an impressionable young American who falls in with a ragtag group of pickpockets in 1961 France." The project will also arrive via Balzer + Bray, and is due out in fall 2017.
Meloy shared the news via Twitter last night (February 9), as you'll see below.
