In between making his directorial debut with Kuso and plotting a 3D tour, Flying Lotus somehow found the time to score animated short film Blade Runner 2022, a Shinichiro Watanabe-directed prequel to Denis Villeneuve's forthcoming feature Blade Runner 2049. Now, the film has been released online.

"Doing something with Watanabe was a dream of mine. Cowboy Bebop is one of the greatest!" the producer wrote on Twitter earlier this month. "When I saw a rough cut of 2022 the temp music was from my past albums. Seeing Blade Runner imagery set to my music was a beautiful feeling."
As previously reported, Blade Runner 2022 arrives following two other mini films, 2036: Nexus Dawn (starring a blind Jared Leto) and 2048: Nowhere to Run. Blade Runner 2049 hits theatres on October 6, without a score by Jóhann Jóhannsson.
