Flying Lotus' New Film 'Ash' Stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tessa Thompson

The artist's sci-fi, which he will also score, starts shooting in New Zealand next year

In January, Flying Lotus announced plans to return to the director's chair with forthcoming feature Ash, and the project has now locked in two leads in Tessa Thompson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Executive produced by District 9 director Neill BlomkampAsh is expecting to begin shooting in New Zealand next year, and will follow Flying Lotus' 2017 directorial debut Kuso. The artist will also compose an original score for the project.

Per an abstract [via Variety], Thompson will play a space station worker "who wakes up on a distant planet to find her colleagues viciously killed, and then forced to work together with the man (Gordon-Levitt) sent to rescue her. But as their investigation into what happened sets in motion a terrifying chain of events, the rescuer begins to wonder how innocent she really is."

In June, Flying Lotus shared two new songs with Devin Tracy. His recent work for screen includes an original score for Netflix's Yasukewhich he also executive produced.

The artist's most recent full-length remains 2019's Flamagra.
