Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney Go 'Ted Lasso' in the Trailer for 'Welcome to Wrexham'

The docuseries will follow the two celebrities and their investment in a struggling North Wales football club

With the many life-altering events of 2020, we suppose you could be forgiven for forgetting that Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney purchased a Welsh football club that year — or that, in 2021, FX decided to make a docuseries about the real-life We Bought a Zoo-level purchase.

But we are now living in the Ted Lasso era, and the first trailer for the entirely non-fictional, Texas accent-free Welcome to Wrexham series is here.

Executive produced by Reynolds and McElhenney (obviously), the show will chart the epic highs and lows of what happens when two Hollywood stars take ownership of the historic (but floundering) football club in a small working-class community in North Wales.

It's a self-proclaimed (as per Reynolds) underdog story about the interconnectivity between the team and the community. "Football's more than a game," says one Red Dragons player in the clip. "It's not life and death; it's more important than that."

Welcome to Wrexham premieres on Hulu in the US on August 24 and on Disney+ in the UK on August 25 — and with any luck, we can only assume it will likewise be available to stream somewhere in Canada around the same time.
