What a gimmick. Take the 8-bit soundtracks from old Nintendo games like original Mario and Zelda, then sample and splice them, tossing really mediocre Japanese chick-pop over top with lyrics that translate into "Engrish” one-liners like "truth is hidden behind the flavour of vanilla.” It’s meant to be a joke, sure, and unfair as it might seem to fault a band for doing exactly what they promise. Playing into their shtick with song titles like "From Russia with Blocks” or "Magical 8bit Tour” won’t make these songs more listenable or the album worth your while.
