Calgary-based quartet Viet Cong, featuring two ex-members from Women, have announced that they've signed up with local imprint Flemish Eye to deliver their next, to-be-detailed release.
A press release confirms that the act, which unites women bassist Matt Flegel and drummer Mike Wallace with Chad VanGaalen collaborator Scott Munro and six-stringer Daniel Christiansen, inked a deal with the label for a forthcoming release, though the specifics are spare beyond that. The one-sheet goes on to note that Viet Cong deliver "tangled fretplay," as well as "searing noise, a driving rhythm section, and an intricate and unique melodic sensibility."
Last year, the group issued their self-titled, tour-only cassette, which has since gone out of print. You can, however, stream a pair of songs from the set over on their Bandcamp page.
The finer points on Viet Cong's as-yet-untitled release, as well as tour info, are expected to be revealed sometime in the future. For now, the band have three shows coming up at this week's SXSW festival. Two of these are secret shows, and the other is a Mexican Summer Records showcase this Friday (March 14) at Austin's Swan Dive venue.
