It has been a few years since Why? earned our praise for their 2009 album Eskimo Snow, but the genre-bending hip-hop outfit will be rewarding their fans' patience by releasing both an EP and a full-length in the coming months.
First up is the six-song Sod in the Seed EP, which drops on August 14 in North America via Anticon and a day earlier in the Europe via City Slang. The record was produced by the band's own Wolf brothers and mixed by Graham Marsh (Cee Lo Green, Katy Perry) with help from frontman Yoni Wolf.
According to a press release, Sod in the Seed will cover some familiar territory for Why? with its "psych-warped sunshine choruses, folksy jangle, internally knotted rhyme schemes, confessionals cut with wry wit and crude details." It will also find them "toughening up" and adding "woodwinds, horns, strings, [and] a choir" to their sound. Hear the eclectic title track at the bottom of the page.
As for the subsequent full-length, the details are still unconfirmed, but it's slated to arrive sometime in the fall. Until then, the band will be touring in the U.S. and Europe, but the schedule doesn't include any Canadian shows. Scroll past the tracklist to see the schedule.
