Who is KK Downey?

We've always liked Toronto After Dark, but it's a hard thing to cover in a video-blog-thing that usually makes punk bands arm wrestle each other. So we were stoked when the festival announced it would be screening the debut feature from Montreal's Kidnapper Films, Who is KK Downey. The movie doesn't fit the typical After Dark mould (no zombies or Thai ghosts), but it's dark humour actually makes it a perfect candidate for the outsider film festival. And it's good. And funny. Something Canadian films often actively aren't.

This video uses a lot of clips from the movie because, well... There's nothing else to cut away from when you're making a video about two guys who made a movie. So if those clips looks funny to you, you should probably go see this movie. It's a lot like this video, but without two guys answering questions inside a movie theatre. And the whole thing was financed out-of-pocket by some mysterious, presumably rich Montrealers, so cherish the lack of government assistance so rarely seen on Canadian screens. Bottom line, it's a good movie, and you'll probably recognize you and all your musician / writer / artist friends inside it's weird little hipster world. How meta of us to tell you that.
