Much-buzzed-about R&B impresario the Weeknd (aka Abel Tesfaye) has announced his debut live show. The announcement came around midnight last night (July 13), revealing that the Weeknd will be debuting his debauched anthems live at Toronto's Mod Club on July 24. Of course, this comes before the enigmatic Toronto artist's set as part of Drake's OVO Festival at the city's Molson Amphitheatre on July 31.
The show poster (featuring a weathered redesign of the House of Balloons mixtape album cover) divulges that tickets are available at 431 Richmond St. W. for $20 (door tickets are $25), there will be no guest list and doors open at 8 p.m. The show is expected to sell out fast, but the promise of door tickets suggests one might not be out of luck if the advance sale doesn't work out.
Will the Weeknd play new material from either of the project's upcoming mixtapes? Will we walk away having seen the real Abel Tesfaye or an impostor, à la DOOM? And, to echo the incredulous reaction many fans are undoubtedly having at the news: is this really happening?
