To the Rooftops

BY Eric HillPublished Apr 1, 2003

This entry in the ’70s art rock revival has chosen the Talking Heads submission form (mailed in with the David Bowie commemorative "Fame" stamp). Made up of past membership of the Hex and Assembly Line People Program this Chicago five piece has all the parts in working order: rubber-dubby bass lines, chiming manic guitar parts, athletic drumming and percussion and a front man with his vocal yelp figured out. There is likely a (psycho) killer live show where all of these songs meet their full potential, but as recorded it comes across a little flat. If they were on "American Art-Pop Idol" Simon would say they chose the right song but need to work on making it their own. And he'd be right. Bastard.
