Watch "Cotton Eye Joe" Interrupt the Canadian Open Semi-Final

Where did you come from / Where did you go / Where did you come from / Tennis elbow

Rednex' immortal 1995 version of "Cotton Eye Joe" is a guaranteed party-starter at middle school dances and community fairgrounds, but it's apparently not the song you want to hear when playing high-stakes tennis.

That definitely seemed to be the case this past Saturday (Aug 12) when "Cotton Eye Joe" randomly blared over the stadium speakers during the women's Canadian Open in Montreal.

The match was a semi-final tiebreaker between Jessica Pegula and Iga Swiatek, and the song came on mid-point, throwing the two players and causing the game to be suspended and the point replayed.

"Oh wow, 'Cotton Eye Joe' just came on mid-rally," commentator Mark Knowles said in the viral clip of the incident. You can see it for yourself below.

This could be evidence of some kind of "Cotton Eye Joe" renaissance, as Rufus Wainwright and Chaka Khan teamed up to cover the folk traditional earlier this year.
