Various Roadrunner United - The Concert

In 2005, Roadrunner Records celebrated their Silver Jubilee by gathering the most notable names from their roster and recording a CD of new material dubbed the Roadrunner United All-Star Recording. That same collective — fleshed out by other label-mates — performed a one-off show around the same time. Released some three years later, the Roadrunner United concert/documentary continues in the revelry. Boasting no less than 56 musicians performing a vast array of material from the label's lengthy release sheet, we find members of Fear Factory, Machine Head, Anthrax, Sepultura, Slipknot, Soulfly and more playing songs from Annihilator to Type O Negative. The actual concert footage leaves something to be desired despite a solid performance and the accompanying documentary comprised of interviews, live footage and retrospectives is of dubious value past one viewing. But Roadrunner United — The Concert is a fresh, if not enduring, idea. (Roadrunner)
