Four Ways of Saying H3O

BY David LewisPublished Sep 1, 1999

All new interpretations of the Hafler Trio by Aube (Kyoto), Lilith (Chicago), P.A.L.(Munich) and Propeller (Vancouver). Aube’s “Clarity Bounce” uses only the glass as source material to build an intensifying dynamic of repetitive, bell-like amplifications. Lilith combines oscillator, synthesiser and brief spoken samples to generate the dirge-drone “Tributorium,” while P.A.L. constructs an electronic spoken word collage “When You Thought Your Hard Disk Was Going To Die,” and Propeller generates white noise distortions in “Mouths Like Bailing Twine.” The obligatory hidden “bonus” track adds 15 minutes, featuring brilliant sections of white noise and over-amplified prepared piano or guitar.
