Various Before the Big Feast

There's something going on in PEI. One of the quieter Maritime provinces, musically speaking, the rock seems to have gushed forth in a creative burst in the form of Sandbar Music. This compilation of spud islanders may just manage to turn the spotlight off Newfoundland and Nova Scotia and place it squarely on Charlottetown with this stew of everything from hip-hop to country. Sixteen songs by familiar faces and newcomers alike, Before the Big Feast features acts such as Tuesdays, Vert DeFrance, the Rude Mechanicals and the New Drifts. Eyes for Telescopes register with "Blonde Wig," a swampy, erotic blues tune that would make Anne of Green Gables blush, and Flush are sure to geld the island's small bison population with their undulating guitars and fearsome angst in "Black Coffee." Motel Money Murder attacks like a chilling North Atlantic storm with the punky "Thin Ice" and may just prove to be the smallest provinces' future secret weapon. No ketchup needed to enjoy this feast.
