Various 'From Gainsbourg to Lulu' (ft. Johnny Depp, Shane MacGowan, Iggy Pop)

Published Nov 21, 2011
A while back, Serge Gainsbourg's son Lulu announced that he was working on a compilation tribute to his father. Now, there are five tracks from the record, aptly titled From Gainsbourg to Lulu, available to hear.Rufus Wainwright delivers a version of "Je Suis Venu Te Dire Que Je M'en Vais" effortlessly, while Marianna Faithfull's "Manon" also seems like a perfect fit. Hollywood pair Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis offer up a nice rendition of "Ballade de Melody Nelson," while Shane MacGowan's "Sous Le Soleil Exactement" and Iggy Pop's "Initial B.B." sound a little rougher around the edges, but are still worth a listen.
Lulu himself appears on about half the album's tracks, while he also recruited his starlet sister Charlotte Gainsbourg to perform on the tribute record.

From Gainsbourg to Lulu will be released in North America on November 29.
