Van Morrison Gets Knighted

That's Sir Van Morrison to you. After more than 50 years in the business, classic Belfast songwriter Van Morrison has now joined an exclusive group of musicians to have been knighted by the British monarchy.

The 69-year-old star is now formally known as Sir George Ivan Morrison. He said in a statement, "Throughout my career I have always preferred to let my music speak for me and it is a huge honour to now have that body of work recognized in this way. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the fans who have supported me on my musical journey." The above photo was posted on the former Them singer's website.

Van the Man was included in the Queen's Birthday Honours list for 2015. Other famous folks included in the list are actors Eddie Redmayne and Benedict Cumberbatch. Kevin Spacey received an honorary knighthood, but doesn't get to be called "Sir Kevin" since he's American.

Other musicians to have been knighted include Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Elton John and more.

Van Morrison's most recent album was Duets: Re-Working the Catalogue, which came out back in March.
