Underdrive

Poker and Blackjack

The artists formerly known as Gush Underdrive drop the first half of their moniker as well their noise/death metal sound and adopt a more guttural and melodic - and frankly more interesting - approach to their music (actually, this metamorphosis is not unlike the change Thought Industry underwent after their first album). On this second EP of a planned trilogy, the Toronto trio sounds at times like a down and dirty Helmet meets Barkmarket and at other times like a less stoned Kyuss ("Regular Rotation" and "We'll See You Next Week"). But the disc's highlight is the opener "Heaven's People," which features a chorus and guitar riff that you'll be whistling for hours after hearing it.
