Trip-hop vet Tricky has described his new album Adrian Thaws as "what I would consider club music," and now we can hear what this sounds like, as the full thing is streaming now on Exclaim.ca.
Tricky's definition of club music is a little different from many people's, since Adrian Thaws isn't heavy on thumping tempos. Still, there are some shimmying electronic grooves on "Lonnie Listen" (which features Mykki Blanco and Francesca Belmonte) and the slinky "Nicotine Love" (also featuring Belmonte), while the Bella Gotti-assisted "Why Don't You" is a jittery smasher.
Elsewhere, the record dips into dark, syncopated territory. Nearly every track features guest performers, who add vocals to Tricky's nocturnal rhythms.
