"I would say that we are karmically entirely responsible, and my apologies"

The Simpsons predicted itSaturday Night Live may have helped normalize it, and a handful of butt rock musicians endorsed it. Still, Donald Trump's cartoonish presidency might have been Rage Against the Machine's fault, or so thinks guitarist Tom Morello

In a new conversation with Interview Magazine, Morello was asked if he thought that Rage might have predicted Trump's meteoric rise. He took things a step further, suggesting the band were in fact responsible for it. "I would say that we are karmically entirely responsible, and my apologies," he said.

Of course, Morello is referring in part to the band's "Sleep Now in the Fire" music video from 1999, which briefly includes an extra holding up a sign that says "Trump for President."

"No one paid any attention to it," Morello said of the video. "It's funny how that became an offhand joke. Offhand joke would be a good hashtag for 2020."
