The Weather Station has released a deluxe edition of this year's Polaris Prize-nominated Ignorance, out now on Fat Possum with vinyl editions arriving November 19.
It comes with alternate album art and features nine bonus tracks, including live takes of "Robber," "Atlantic," and "Loss," piano versions of "Subdivisions," "Tried to Tell You," "Parking Lot," and "Heart," plus two never-before-heard new tracks.
About the expanded record, the Weather Station's Tamara Lindeman said:
Whenever you make anything, you have to leave things out; it's a critical part of the process, but a painful one nonetheless. I'm glad to have the opportunity to revisit the paths not taken, and allow some of them out after all; quiet versions of songs that were redirected into rhythm, two of the songs we recorded but left off the album, and some live versions of the songs that have come to be since the recording. It has been overwhelming to have this album be so lovingly received, and it is wonderful to have the space to release more of it into the world.
New songs "Better Now" and "Look" both clock in at under three minutes, and are clearly of a piece with the piano-led art-pop of the official album tracks. "Better Now" comes attached to a still, meditative visualizer featuring Lindeman standing among windswept brush in her mirror suit.
"I wrote 'Better Now' in Banff, Alberta, in stolen moments as I was teaching songwriting and writing for myself," said Lindeman. "It's all just true; the mountains, the piano, the first line, the pain of being hurt and the joy of being alright anyways." The Weather Station's 56-date world tour continues on November 12 in Vancouver, after which she'll be playing shows in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec and Ontario before heading south across the border.
