The Smile appear to be in the studio. Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood's non-Radiohead band have been posting photos on Instagram, which seem to hint that the band are in the process of recording new material.

Today, the band posted an Instagram Story showing a tape machine with VU meters on the front. Earlier this week, they shared an image of Polaroids photos (one showing Greenwood) sitting on top of studio gear. See the images below.

While the Smile haven't announced anything formally, the images strongly hint that the trio are back in the studio, perhaps to work on the follow-up to last year's A Light for Attracting Attention. While the band were touring that album, they premiered a number of new songs live.

Meanwhile, there has been speculation about what Radiohead's side projects mean for the future of their primary band. The last we heard, the band were in talks about possible reissue plans, but their future was unclear beyond that.
