Tame Impala Seem to Be Using the COVID Vaccine as a Marketing Gimmick to Promote Their Tour

They are even calling the tour ""Phase 1 Rushium® Trials"

Just the other day, Tame Impala were found teasing something, posting a cryptic clip of a pharmaceutical advertisement for a fake drug called Rushium from a fake company called AionWell. This has now led to what many suspected — a tour announcement.

Today Tame Impala sent out a press release for their tour, but instead of just clearly stating the obvious, the band decided to package the announcement as an ad for some fictional drug. They are even goes so far as to call the tour "Phase 1 Rushium® Trials."

Here's how the press release reads:

AionWell® L.T.d, a privately held Australian biopharma ceutical company focused on the development of recombinant stabilization and expansion of cellular space regrowth, has announced today that Kevin Parker, D.B.A. "Tame Impala,"  has acquired minority equity interest in AionWell® L.T.d and secured an option to acquire the remaining equity in the company. The option becomes exercisable upon the completion of Phase I trial of Rushium® in the treatment of Acute Time Metagrobolization in Cells (ATMiC) within patients from 16 to 95 years of age. ATMiC is a common cellular condition within the brain's Suprachiasmatic nucleus, much of the research into this condition is cutting edge and still being performed. Based on the current findings, ATMiC could affect up to half of the pop ulation. Currently there are no medications approved for this condition and the only treatment is supportive care and third dose mesothermal procedure.

Tame Impala then finally get to actually confirming their 2021 North American tour dates, which you can find below. Notably, though, the band's Vancouver concert scheduled for August 4 is no longer listed. In fact, there is no Vancouver show mentioned at all. However, there is a Toronto date on the schedule, though it's entirely TBD.

But to more important things — are Tame Impala actually using the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing vaccine rollout as a marketing tool for a tour? Because in our current climate, it's very easy to read things that way.

And are we then okay to flip the current vaccine situation into a marketing gimmick, especially considering most parts of the world are still without access to safe and effective vaccines? And are we cool enough with COVID in our lives where we can start poking some fun at the whole thing and the drugs we're trying to use to keep it at bay?

Or maybe Tame Impala are taking shots at big pharma, but either way, it's definitely a pretty bold marketing tactic on the part of Tame Impala — and one that's definitely open to some very mixed messaging.
